Submissions for Sola Voce (our one-woman show series) have closed for the 2012 Festival. Check back with us next year!
For your reference, guidelines are as follows:
Shows submitted outside the specified dates and/or guidelines WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
We primarily look for solo shows by female writer/performers, but we do consider submissions by male writers that explore complex female characters and perspectives and are appropriate for a celebration of female voices. Please don’t put a woman’s name on your play. It WON’T help you.
We will only consider shows that have not yet been produced in New York City.
Beginning in 2012, submissions for EstroGenius are ONLY accepted electronically. Video links are encouraged and welcome. You can load them into Dropbox, or Vimeo, or YouTube and send a link. No in person submissions will be accepted. Please do NOT send unfinished scripts – they will not be considered.
Submissions and payment must be submitted via the Submission Form link.
The Submission Charge for consideration for the festival is $5.
Please number the pages of your script.
Please complete all required fields on Submission Form.
There are no stipulations on content or subject matter. Material need not be women’s-issues oriented. We’re interested in all that women are writing about.
Your solo show will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
o Does it have a clear beginning, middle, and end?
o Is the subject matter new and interesting or, if it’s a familiar story, is it told in an interesting or innovative way?
o Is it well written?
o Will it work in our space?
Solo shows cannot run longer than 50 minutes. Be sure to time your play accurately. If your show is longer than 50 minutes, you will be required to edit. If you have a show that is shorter than 50 minutes, it can be considered for inclusion in an evening of short pieces, but TIME YOUR MATERIAL ACCURATELY, so that we can plan accordingly.
All plays should require only simple production values (sets, lights and costumes). If it can’t be done with our unit set and some imagination, then please don’t submit it!
Your solo show must be cast, and have a director. We do not cast and produce your show for you, so if you do not have an actor or director, or cannot get one on your own, please do not submit it.
An electronic confirmation will be sent to you to let you know when all of your materials (cover sheet, payment and script plus other materials) have been received/processed.
FAQs
Q: Can I submit more than one solo show for consideration?
A: Yes, you may. Beginning in 2012, we are allowing writer/performers to submit more than once. However, for EACH play submitted, the writer must pay a separate $5 fee.
Q: Why is there a charge?
A: Because EstroGenius is growing! The loss of our space on MacDougal Street created a unique opportunity for the festival to expand into a larger venue, but it also means we need more money up front to rent that space and produce your play in a bigger, more prestigious and versatile venue. Your submission fee helps make that possible.
Q: Is my submission fee tax deductible?
A: Absolutely. Should you require a letter to go along with the receipt, please contact us via email.
